The first Flight II San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock completed builder’s sea trials over the weekend, Ingall’s Shipbuilding announced Tuesday.
The future USS Harrisburg (LPD-30) completed the multi-day trials on Saturday, during which Ingalls Shipbuilding tested the ship’s propulsion, steering and communications, as well as the ship-control, mission and combat systems. The ship now has to undergo acceptance trials before its delivery to the Navy later this year, reads the release from HII.
Ingalls Shipbuilding launched Harrisburg just over two years ago in October of 2024.

“This successful sea trial is a critical step toward delivering this ship to the fleet and a testament to the quality of our shipbuilders’ work,” Stephen Janowski, Ingalls Shipbuilding amphibious ship program manager, said in the release. “LPD-30 will provide the Navy and the Marine Corps with enhanced capability for generations, and we are proud to see the ship progressing so strongly toward delivery.”
Harrisburg is the first of three Flight II San Antonio-class LPDs under construction at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Miss. The future USS Pittsburgh (LPD-31) and USS Philadelphia (LPD-32) are also at the shipyard while Ingalls plans to construct the future USS Travis Manion (LPD-33) and the next two LPDs.
Travis Manion, LPD-34 and LPD-35 are part of a $9.6 billion multi-year deal between the Navy and HII that also includes America-class big deck amphibious warship Helmand Province (LHA-10). The total cost, when including government furnished equipment, comes out to $11.5 billion, USNI News previously reported.
The deal follows a Pentagon study looking at Flight II LPDs’ capability and cost and a previous pause on buying amphibious ships.
