HMS Nelson, Portsmouth 1934

On Jan 12 1934, the Royal Navy battleship HMS Nelson ran aground on Hamilton Bank while exiting Portsmouth Harbour. The massive flagship became stuck in the mud and sand during an exceptionally low tide, prompting a highly unusual series of rescue efforts before it was freed by the next flood tide.
