Today

Thursday 26th July

Well,
it is still hot and getting hotter, around 32 today but the temp in
Inner Mongolia is up to 41 and is heading this way so we will see how
it is then, if it comes.
Went to Bayuquan last Saturday. It a newish
town and is growing very fast. There is a very large and new port there
called Yingkou and the steel company in Anshan, where I am, is building
a new facility there for importing iron ore from Western Australia.
I
teach English to some of the local police and they invited me to go on
their work picnic. We arrived in Bayuquan and headed for the amusement
park, similar to Rainbows End but not as big. Well, the policemen wanted
to try all these rides and asked if I would like to try, so not to
appear cowardly I said yes. The first was terrifying enough, in a small
spinning car on some rails which go up really high and me in the front
and the front hanging over the abyss, but was John frightened, of course
not – yeah right. The next was this thing that does 360 loops and stops
at the top of the loop with John hanging in the straps upsidedown with
the blood rushing to my head and having a very red face. Mei was
watching from the ground and was more terrified than I. Staggered of
that and went for a peaceful ride in the log flume, pretty tame really
but all a lot of fun. They then decided it was time to eat so off we go
to a restaurant which was a buffet style specialising in shellfish, as
much as you could eat for NZ$10.00 , it also provided barbecued
chicken, plenty of fresh fruit and salads, very satisisfying. After
that, back to the beach for a bit of a frolic around in the sea. A nice
day out.
