Well, not quite, but she gets concerned at the slightest clearing of the throat, so with a bit of recent coughing and spluttering she decides that I do need to see the doctor, she actually wanted to cart me off to the hospital. Anyway, one of my students has a doctor father and I said I will go and see him.
Off we go to Taiping to see the doctor, well he has a clinic and has many patients coming and going and most have never seen a foreigner so I do really look like a very rare animal with all and sundry looking at me.
He treats me like I was the Emporer and checks me out, the recommended treatment here is an intravenous drip which seems to cure everything, they have different formula’s for different conditions.
Not being a fan of needles being poked into me, I waited as he loaded up the solution with different bits and pieces and looked away as he poked the needle in, actually felt nothing, and then lie down and await the fluid to make its way into my system.
Seems to work very well, feeling fit as a fiddle and sharp as a knife.
As seems to be the custom here where I am concerned, I do not have to pay and am invited to have a barbecue and try some beer and a whiskey.
All in all, people here treat me very well, make me feel very special and really, I am just an ordinary bloke from Nelson, New Zealand.
