British troops are used to boarding ships as passengers on their way to operational areas but how many soldiers actually serve as members of the crew?

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary has three Dock Landing Ships each with a Ship’s Warrant Officer – a post traditionally awarded to a member of the Royal Logistic Corps.

But RFA Cardigan Bay, which has been sailing through the Gulf, boasts a little known British Army posting at sea.
