A broken down cargo ship has made it safely to the Port of Lorient after spending more than 12 hours adrift in heavy weather in the Bay of Biscay.
The emergency towing vessel, Abeille Bourbon, was called out late Monday night to assist eight crewmembers aboard the general cargo ship Just Mariian, which had lost power while southwest of Belle Isle off the coast of Brittany.
Severe weather caused some difficulty but the Abeille Bourbon was eventually able to connect to the vessel and commence towing at approximately 11:20 a.m. Tuesday. A second tug met up with pair and towed the vessel into the port of Lorent a few hours later.
Photos taken upon their arrival show the Just Mariian listing slightly to port with some cargo hanging off the side.
