HMAS Darwin made the first port call of her Operation SLIPPER deployment at Port Sultan Qaboos in Muscat, Oman, earlier this week.Darwin’s Commanding Officer, Commander Terence Morrison RAN and crew were greeted by Commander Joint Task Force 633, Major General Craig Orme AM CSC and his deputy, Commodore Philip Spedding DSC AM RAN.
Port calls are an important component of the duties of Royal Australian Navy vessels deployed to Operation SLIPPER, allowing re-supply, diplomatic engagement and an opportunity for the ship’s company to briefly immerse themselves in local culture and history. Press Release, February 27, 2014 |
