Photo of the Day – The elusive Hispaniolan Lizard Cuckoo is endemic to the tropical and subtropical dry forests and moist lowland forests of the Dominican Republic and Haiti where it is fairly widespread. If you look carefully, you may find this crafty Cuckoo hopping around from tree to tree in search of lizards and other large insects. It is from its diet of lizards that this bird derives its name and in hunting for them, it has earned its reputation for being rather sneaky and not always easy to spot! You may well hear this Cuckoo’s abrupt, harsh, low-pitched call before you see it. This gorgeous photograph was taken by Adam Riley on the Rabo de Gato trail in the Dominican Republic.
