This lighthouse is one of those all-North-Carolina-photographers-must-do sort of destinations, but all for good reason: the place is just simply wonderful to visit! But it can also be rather difficult to create a unique image of the place given the limited angles available to compose from. Nevertheless, I just love this scene and I'll definitely revisit several more times in the future!
The building is an exterior reconstruction of the square cottage-style screw-pile lighthouse which stood at the southern entrance to Croatan Sound, near Wanchese, NC. The lens is a 4th order Fresnel lens with a fixed white light and is still active for guiding boats into Shallowbag Bay. (description paraphrased from: townofmanteo.com)
