Those of you whose memories are still functioning might be able to help me out a bit?

I am asking what food you enjoyed from the ships galley the most, or the worst! Anything, as long as it was memorable!

The reason is, there is NOT a true, representative cook book/recipe book that reflects the original and authentic Navy scran served during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
The Yanks have such a book, but we British do not…yet. (there are one or two which pretend, but are actually crap!)

It is something I have been working on for some time and the book is coming together nicely.

I have covered the main dishes I can recall such as, Pot Mess, Shit on a Raft, Cheese Ush, Cheesy-Hammy-Eggy, Banjo’s, Elephants footprints, Babies Heads, Duff, Tiddy Oggies and so on, but am afraid I have missed some that you may remember.

Also, feel welcome to send any dits about the food, the cooks, or even any ‘big eats’ stories from a run ashore etc. Oh, if you have any photos of cooks from any ship, preferably in the galley or in their ‘whites’ it is possible that I could use them in the book too!

The book will be out next year, called ‘The Pussers Cook Book’ and will be in two versions. One an illustrated hardback, smaller, but the same quality as the Tiger Book

The second version will be a paperback. (The paperback edition will NOT have photos or illustrations.)

Along with the recipes will be the relevant ‘Jackspeak’, bits of history about how the dish and how it got its Jackspeak name, and loads of other ‘Pusser’ oriented stuff.
