The Philippine Navy has deployed two ships to help repatriate Filipinos in the Middle East as tensions in the region are rising.

A send-off ceremony for the landing dock BRP Davao Del Sur (LD602) and offshore patrol vessel BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PS16) took place at Pier 13, South Harbor, Manila, on January 14, 2020.

The two Philippine Navy ships, together with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) units, will support the government’s efforts in repatriating distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran.

The vessels are expected to reach Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 25 days, with a layover in Sri Lanka for refueling and replenishment.

BRP Davao del Sur and BRP Ramon Alcaraz will serve as sea-based platforms providing accommodation for workers impacted by tensions in the region, according to the Philippine News Agency (PNA).
