HMS Prince of Wales has travelled under the Forth Bridges in the Firth of Forth as she makes her way back to Portsmouth.

The ship’s Twitter account took the opportunity to post pictures of Britain’s biggest warship travelling under the bridges, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as she makes her way back to her homeport.

It comes after the Queen Elizabeth-class carrier departed the dry dock last week, ending nine months of repairs in Rosyth.

HMS Prince of Wales broke down last year ahead of a deployment to the US.

Inspections by divers and engineers found that the NATO flagship’s 33-ton starboard propeller – the same weight as 30 Ford Fiesta cars – had malfunctioned with a coupling holding it in place breaking.

The carrier then headed to Rosyth, arriving back in Fife for repairs in August last year.
