Origins: Built in 1918 and originally named HMS Saxifrage, she was a Flower-class Q-ship—a merchant vessel covertly armed to lure and hunt German U-boats. [1, 2]
Thames Docking: Renamed HMS President in 1922, she sat moored on the Victoria Embankment in London as a drill ship for decades. [1, 2]
Current Status: One of only three surviving WWI Royal Navy warships. Due to relocation and maintenance issues following the closure of Chatham Docks, she is undergoing dismantling by developers, much to the dismay of maritime conservationists. [1]
