The first arrival of the new OPV HMNZS Otago into Devonport Naval Base

Ship Details

Class: Lake-class Inshore Patrol Vessel

Dimensions: 55 x 9 x 2.9m

Displacement: 340 tonnes

Machinery: 2-shaft twin diesels = 25 knots

Range: 3000 NM @ 12 knots, 2000NM @ 16 knots

Armament: 3 x .50cal machineguns and small arms

Complement: 20 (3 officers and 17 ratings)

Multi-Agency complement: 4 & 2 kennels

Training complement: 17

Ship’s Boats: 2 x 7.3m Zodiac RHIB

Background

There are four Lake-class Inshore Patrol Vessels (IPV) commissioned into RNZN service. They have been named HMNZS Rotoiti, Hawea, Taupo, and Pukaki. These four are the third vessels in RNZN to carry these names.
