From 24 to 27 August 2026, the four French Navy vessels based in Noumea conducted the Cagou exercise in the New Caledonian lagoon and offshore.
The surveillance frigate (FS) Vendemiaire, the overseas support and assistance vessel (BSAOM) D’Entrecasteaux, the overseas patrol boats (POM) Auguste Bénébig and Jean Tranape maneuvered together, in a configuration unprecedented since the integration of the Jean Tranape into the system, which arrived on 18 June.
Four days of training to mechanize the maneuvers and integrate the new embarked sailors, at the end of a season of command changes. On the program: towing between vessels, recovery of men overboard, firefighting, deck landings of the Dauphin on the Vendemiaire, implementation of drones, refueling at sea, flag control and visit of a suspicious vessel.
All this know-how is directly linked to the missions carried out daily in the area: assistance to damaged vessels, rescue, fisheries policing, fight against illegal trafficking.
